Archives and Genealogy Department
Welcome to the Archives and Genealogy section of the Belleville Public Library! We are located on the second floor of the main library. The resources that make up our collection are helpful to both beginning and experienced genealogists.
We are also the depository of the St. Clair County Genealogical Society. The society is continually publishing and adding local resources to the library's collection.
Click on the links to the left to access information about the genealogical and historical resources available.
After you're done here, you might want to download this list of the 101 best genealogy websites according to Family Tree magazine.

Our Research Policy
The Archives staff does not do extensive, general family research, but will search indexed material for specific names in a specific record (i.e. an obituary for a time range from a particular community newspaper held by the library.) The fee is $2.50 per name per record, payable by cash or check to the Belleville Public Library. A stamped, self-addressed envelope should be sent with postal requests. E-mail requests are also accepted. These requests will be billed. If you have any questions about research requests, please feel free to call the library at 618.234.0441 ext. 22.
You can also click here to fill out a request form that will be forwarded to the Archivist.
